When R:Backup creates backups of R:BASE database files, it is essentially using the R:BASE UNLOAD ALL command to unload the complete structure and data for each specified database. The output files generated will follow the output file name settings defined in R:Backup. The file extensions for the database will be placed in the .all and .lob files. Each database will have a set of .all and .lob files. However, if a database contains no large object data, then a .lob file will not be created.

Restoring a Backup

Backups can be only be restored with R:BASE. In order to restore a backup, the R:BASE RUN command is used with the .all file to recreate the database in the folder where the .all and .lob file exist together. If a database .all file is moved, its corresponding .lob file must be moved with it. Otherwise, the backup restore will fail.
